We're All Burned Out, a Conversation with
Dr. Quade French on Higher Ed Pods

"Burnout" is more than just having too much to do.
Burnout happens when:

  • We are asked to act in ways that are incongruent with our values (i.e., the culture of our workplace is misaligned with what we truly believe

  • When we are convinced that no matter how hard we try, the culture around us will not change

  • When we are emotionally and psychologically exhausted

In this talk, I review the research and theory of burnout, and how individuals, organizations, and leaders can do differently.

USC Rossier Grand Challenges:
Part 6: Cultivating Systemic Wellness

I was honored to participate as a panelist talking with other leaders about systemic considerations for building organizations, policy, and practice that support well-being for their people.

We discussed barriers, considerations, and strategies that leaders can consider in any domain of professional practice that are rooted in research and experience.

Dialogue Through Difference
USC Center for Excellence in Teaching

Much of the work I've done centers on effective dialogue. In this presentation, I outline the theoretical and research-based foundations for the framework I developed, "Foundations of Academic Dialogue" and concrete guidance on how to apply this work.

While the framework for this talk is higher education, these theories are rooted in theories of intergroup dialogue, facilitation, and group dynamics making it broadly applicable in any professional setting.
